Did you know the tyres are the leading cause of NCT failure?
According to the results published by Applus, the company who oversees National Car Test in Ireland, tyres are now the leading cause of failure. In the results, the requirements of thread depth, condition and specification are all grouped under one heading.
The NCT figures show failures in three main areas:
1. Thread depth below the legal 1.6mm legal limit
2. Dangerous levels of damage
3. Mis-matched tyres on the same axel
In order to reduce the likelihood of NCT failure and improve Customer safety it is advised that owners check tyre pressure monthly which can also improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Regular tyre checks are recommended to ensure tyres are safe and roadworthy. The date of manufacture will also be checked as most manufacturers and road safety bodies suggest tyres should be changed every six years.
